While sitting at my desk at work patiently working on one of my latest projects, a brilliant thought popped into my craftly little brain...Why not start a blog in order to keep track of all the wonderful (and sometimes not so great) projects that I work on. I have always been one that enjoys sharing what my latest and greatest accomplishments are, so why not do it on the internet.
A little background about me. I have been called many things over the course of my (just turned) 34 years on this planet, daughter, friend, student, wife, mother, and sailor are among them. When it comes to my knitting, I will admit that I can be a bit obsessive. My husband has been known to call me Betsy Ross or even a little old lady. My supervisor (Chief for you fellow Navy types) says I have too much time on my hands and that I am "one of those crafty ones". I happen to be a person that can sit for hours knitting. I might be working on nothing more than an afghan for a friend that might be expecting or a scarf for someone else. Lately, I've been wanting to expand my horizons and try different techniques and play with new types of yarn.
I am known to have several projects going on at the same time because I am constantly finding new patterns that I want to try and once I get going on one project I thing of other ways to use that same idea. Just recently, I found a pattern for a pair of fingerless gloves that were a very quick knit so I decided to see how I could go about modifying the pattern to make a hat (which worked great).
Current projects:
- Lately I have been on a fingerless glove kick. For those that have never knitted a pair before, I have found that they are a great way to try new ideas because they are small and easy to carry around. I have managed to get a few pair completed in a weekend. I am currently working on a pattern called Spirogyra wrist warmers that I found on knitty.com. They have a beautiful shell pattern to them that curves one way for the right arm and the other way for the left arm. As I'm working on the left side I am amaized to see that they are looking just like the picture on the pattern. I am so proud of myself on these. I'll definately get pictures posted as soon as I get a chance.
- A few months ago, a dear friend allowed me to peruse several knitting pattern books she aquired from a yarn shop in her area that was closing. I found an adorable pattern for a child's bathrobe that I made for my daughter for her birthday. Well, it went over so well at her birthday party I had several friends ask if I could make one for their little ones as well. I figured since she was the one that gave me the pattern, I would make a robe for my friend's son next, so I have that one I am working on as well.
- Several months ago, my mom and sister (who are also avid knitters) came out for a visit. While they were here we made a stop at a ocal knit shop and saw a pattern for a scarf that fit over the neck and had pieces that wove together so it stayed in place. My sister started working on the verson that had a cable to it. Well when she left, she decided to leave the unfinished project, so I have that to work on as well.
I also happen to have ideas for several projects that I want to get going, but I am either waiting on the yarn or I the needles I need are currently occupied by something else. One of these is a pair of socks for my dear hubby. Ever since I learned how to make socks, he has wanted a pair of knee high socks that look like the sweater Freddie Kruger wore in the Friday the 13th movies. I never realized how difficult it would be to find solid colored sock yarn in red and gray/green, but I was finally successful. Now to just get the yarn in the mail so I can finally get these things going.
Well, I have gone on long enough. Time for me to back away from the computer, grab a pair of needles and knit away (at least until I have to get ready to go home for the day). I will be posting pitcures soon!
